Wood Wool Ceiling + Eco-Friendly Polyester Boards | Artisan Coffee Roastery Café, Stockholm, Sweden

scandinavian cafe acoustics

Project Background

This 260 sq m artisan coffee roastery and café in central Stockholm combines a front-of-house seating area with an open back-of-house roasting zone. The high vaulted ceiling, exposed brick walls and concrete floors create heavy reverberation during peak hours. Espresso machines, roaster fans and customer chatter overlap sharply, making order communication difficult and weakening the relaxed local atmosphere. The project required natural-texture acoustic materials matching the minimalist Nordic aesthetic, with EU fire and eco certifications for commercial food service spaces.

Acoustic Solution

Full-ceiling cement-bonded wood wool acoustic panels are installed across seating and roasting zones. The fine, uniform light-grey wood wool texture delivers NRC 0.80–0.90 broadband absorption while blending seamlessly with the industrial Nordic interior. The dense cement-bonded finish resists moisture, coffee spills and dust, supporting daily cleaning routines. Feature walls and counter perimeters are clad with 100% recycled polyester fiber boards from the Eco-Friendly Series. E0 grade formaldehyde-free and custom color-matched to warm oak tones, the panels absorb mid-high frequency speech noise and reduce counter area sound buildup. All materials are factory cut to exact project dimensions to minimize on-site waste.

Project Outcomes

  • Peak-hour ambient noise dropped by 35%, meeting premium café acoustic comfort standards
  • Reverberation time reduced to 1.0–1.2 seconds
  • Average customer dwell time increased by 23%
  • All materials meet EN 13501 Class A fire safety standards
