MLV Sound Barriers + Acoustic Ceiling Panels | Precision Machining Facility Noise Control, Stuttgart, Germany

mass loaded vinyl barrier

Project Background

This 5,500 sq m precision component machining facility in Stuttgart had continuous broadband noise from automated lathes, milling machines and ventilation systems that exceeded workplace noise limits, interfered with precision measurement accuracy and put staff at risk of over-exposure. The project required modular, industrial-grade acoustic solutions that could be installed around existing equipment without full production shutdown.

Acoustic Solution

Modular mass loaded vinyl (MLV) sound barriers from the Insulation Series are installed along high-noise CNC production lines and around equipment enclosures. The 3kg/m² ultra-dense polymer barriers deliver up to 27dB STC per single layer, blocking direct airborne noise transmission to operator workstations. The modular barrier design supports reconfiguration as production layouts change. High-density inorganic fiberglass acoustic ceiling panels from the Ceiling Series are fully laid across the production hall to control overall ambient reverberation. The dense, non-shedding surface resists industrial dust and supports regular cleaning, meeting workshop hygiene requirements.

Project Outcomes

  • Workstation noise levels reduced by 41%, meeting EU occupational health exposure limits
  • On-site verbal communication clarity improved by 43%
  • Precision measurement error rates decreased notably
  • Installation completed during scheduled maintenance windows with zero production disruption
