This project was the acoustic design of the public area of a mountain-view nature-themed boutique hostel. The common area features a high ceiling, exposed concrete walls and a large number of log decorations, with strong sound reflection. During peak periods, the sound of guest conversations, coffee making and background music echoed in the space, which was noisy and chaotic, destroying the quiet and healing atmosphere that the hostel should have. The client required that the acoustic transformation must retain the original natural and rough design style.

Cement-bonded wood wool acoustic panels were selected as the main ceiling and partial wall acoustic material. The natural rough wood-cement texture of the panels is highly consistent with the nature, original and healing style of the hostel, and no additional decorative finish is required, which maximizes the retention of the spatial design tone. The open fiber structure achieves an NRC of 0.80–0.90, which effectively absorbs scattered noise in the public area and reduces overall reverberation.

In addition, the wood wool panels have Class A fire resistance and excellent moisture resistance, and can maintain stable performance in the mountainous humid environment. After the project was completed, the overall noise level of the public area decreased significantly during peak hours. Guests can communicate normally without raising their voices, and the quiet and relaxed atmosphere of the space is more prominent. The online review score of the hostel increased by 0.4 points, realizing the double improvement of acoustic experience and design texture.
