This project was the acoustic design of a contemporary art gallery located in a creative park. The gallery adopts a minimalist raw concrete style, with bare concrete walls and high ceilings, resulting in obvious reverberation. During exhibition periods, visitor conversations, footsteps and guide explanations echo in the space, destroying the quiet and immersive viewing atmosphere. The client required that the acoustic transformation must not damage the original industrial artistic style of the space.

Cement-bonded wood wool acoustic panels were selected as the main ceiling and partial wall acoustic material. The unique rough matte texture of the panels highly matches the minimalist and primitive artistic style of the gallery. There is no need for additional decorative finish after installation, which retains the original architectural texture to the greatest extent and integrates with the exhibition space naturally. In terms of acoustic performance, the open fiber structure achieves an NRC of 0.80–0.90, which effectively absorbs scattered noise in the exhibition hall and reduces overall environmental reverberation.

In addition, the wood wool panels have Class A fire resistance, which meets the fire safety requirements of public exhibition spaces. After the project was completed, the overall noise level of the gallery decreased significantly during peak exhibition periods. Visitors generally reported that the viewing experience was more immersive and quiet, and the guide’s explanation was clearer. The natural texture of the panels also adds a warm layered sense to the cold concrete space, realizing the perfect integration of acoustic function and artistic aesthetics.
