The Challenge

This 850㎡ premium private dental clinic in the Greater Toronto Area covers consultation rooms, treatment suites, a public waiting area and corridors. Original lightweight partition walls and hard wall finishes caused clear inter-room sound leakage — patients could easily hear drilling and conversations from adjacent treatment rooms, increasing dental anxiety and creating privacy compliance risks. The clinic needed acoustic materials that can be wiped down and disinfected daily, have low VOC emissions, and still fit with the soft, high-end interior aesthetic.

Our Solution

In consultation and treatment rooms we installed full-height high-density fiberglass core medical-grade fabric acoustic panels, with an NRC rating of 0.85–1.0. The outer face uses medical-grade stain-resistant flame-retardant fabric that stands up to daily wipe-down disinfection. The panels effectively cut airborne sound transmission between rooms and keep doctor-patient conversations private. In public waiting areas and corridors we used perforated acoustic panels with mineral wool backing (NRC 0.80+), with smooth dense easy-to-clean surfaces to control reverb in public zones.

All materials meet ASTM E84 Class A fire safety standards and ultra-low VOC emission requirements, fully compliant with North American healthcare facility norms. We built out room by room in phases, keeping the clinic partially open the whole time.

The Results

Inter-room sound leakage in treatment areas is effectively eliminated, and speech privacy now meets local healthcare compliance standards. Patient pre-treatment anxiety scores dropped notably, and overall patient satisfaction scores for visit comfort are up 32%. All materials hold up perfectly to daily clinical disinfection routines with no performance drop.
