Grooved & Perforated Acoustic Panels for Indoor Basketball Stadium Acoustic Renovation

This project was the acoustic renovation of a community indoor basketball stadium. The space has a high floor height and hard walls and floors. During use, the impact sound of bouncing balls, cheering shouts and echo are superimposed, resulting in serious low-frequency reverberation. The on-site sound is muddy, and the broadcast sound is unclear, which affects the sports experience and the normal progress of events.
The design team adopted a combined scheme of grooved acoustic panels and perforated acoustic panels for wall treatment around the stadium. Based on the Helmholtz resonance principle, the two panels are matched according to the space volume and noise frequency characteristics, targeting the 250Hz–1000Hz mid-low frequency impact noise and echo that are common in sports venues and difficult to solve by ordinary porous materials. With the rear air cavity and mineral wool backing, the overall NRC reaches 0.90, realizing full-band balanced sound absorption and optimizing the sound field of the whole venue.
The wood veneer panels are wear-resistant and impact-resistant, adapting to the high-frequency use scenario of the sports hall. After the transformation, the acoustic test shows that the reverberation time of the stadium is significantly shortened, the low-frequency echo is effectively weakened, the clarity of the broadcast is greatly improved, and the listening effect of each stand area is uniform. Whether it is daily fitness basketball or holding small events, the acoustic environment can meet the use needs, and the user sports experience has been significantly improved.
