Fiberglass Acoustic Ceiling Tiles for Munich Precision Testing Lab

The Challenge

This 180㎡ precision testing lab in an industrial park outside Munich houses sensitive detection instruments, sample prep areas and a small equipment room. Testing equipment, ventilation systems and centrifuges run all day, generating steady broadband noise. The noise interferes with the accuracy of sensitive instruments, and lab technicians face long-term noise exposure shift after shift. The lab has strict dust control, fire safety and cleanability rules, so any acoustic material can’t shed particles, has to withstand regular wiping, and meet industrial hygiene standards.

Our Approach

We fitted the entire lab ceiling with high-density inorganic fiberglass acoustic ceiling tiles, NRC 0.90–0.95, inherent Class A fire resistance to EN 13501 standards. The interconnected porous structure efficiently absorbs full-spectrum reflected noise from equipment and airflow, while the dense hardened surface resists dust build-up and supports regular wipe-down cleaning — critical for lab environments.

Around the equipment room perimeter, we added partial perforated acoustic panels with mineral wool backing to help control mid-low frequency equipment noise.

All materials are non-particulate and fiber-shedding free, meeting lab dust control requirements. The system holds stable performance even in temperature-fluctuating industrial environments.

The Results

Ambient noise in the main testing area dropped by an estimated 41%, falling within acceptable limits for precision instrument operation and reducing acoustic interference to improve testing accuracy. Lab technicians report less end-of-shift fatigue and much clearer verbal communication during experiments.
