This premium independent children’s bookstore combines a picture book reading area, a craft activity studio and a parent lounge, targeted at families with young children and focused on a calm, high-quality early literacy experience. The open, light-filled space with hardwood floors and glass partitions suffered from excessive reverberation; children’s voices, activity noise and parent conversation overlapped, creating a loud, overstimulating environment. The reading zone was disrupted by activity studio noise, and parents found the space fatiguing for extended visits. The store required a safe, eco-friendly acoustic solution with soft, playful aesthetics that would align with its warm, child-centric brand identity.

We designed a custom acoustic scheme using 100% recycled polyester fiber panels, installed across feature walls in the reading zone, activity studio and corridor areas. The panels are zero-formaldehyde with ultra-low VOC emissions, meeting the strictest indoor air quality standards for early childhood environments. We custom-cut the panels into soft, rounded geometric shapes in muted pastel tones, turning the acoustic treatment into a playful decorative element that complements the store’s gentle interior design. The porous PET material delivers NRC 0.85–0.95 sound absorption, reducing overall reverberation and softening sharp children’s voices to create a calmer, less overstimulating atmosphere. Modular adhesive installation required no drilling or harsh construction, completed outside operating hours to avoid disruption.

After completion, ambient noise levels across the store dropped significantly. The reading zone remains quiet and focused even when the activity studio is in use, and children show longer attention spans during storytime sessions. Parents report being able to stay longer without feeling overwhelmed, and repeat visit rates have increased notably. The colorful, shaped panels add to the space’s warm, inviting character rather than feeling like a functional upgrade. The project delivers a child-safe, aesthetically integrated acoustic solution that elevates both experience and operational value for a family-focused retail space.
