This high-end residential private cinema is part of a standalone villa in a tropical Southeast Asian city, built for private film screenings and high-fidelity music listening. The enclosed basement space originally had smooth plaster walls and solid wood flooring, with noticeable room echo and uneven low-frequency response. The humid local climate also meant all interior materials needed good moisture resistance to avoid mould or warping over time. The homeowner wanted a fully custom cinematic experience, with immersive visual atmosphere alongside theatre-level acoustic performance, and rejected standard industrial acoustic foam that would break the high-end residential aesthetic.

We designed the space around a polyester fiber luminous starry acoustic ceiling as the visual and acoustic centrepiece, paired with fabric wrapped acoustic panels on side and rear walls. The starry ceiling is made from 100% recycled PET base material with an NRC rating of 0.92, embedded with custom-arranged optical fibre star points that support stepless dimming and multiple scene modes. The moisture-resistant PET material holds up well to the region’s humid tropical climate, with zero formaldehyde emission for safe long-term use in enclosed rooms. Side walls and first reflection points are fitted with high-density fibreglass core fabric panels, NRC 0.85–1.0, upholstered in deep midnight-blue velvet to match the starry ceiling theme. A row of perforated acoustic panels along the lower rear wall further tunes low-frequency standing waves for tighter, more defined bass response.

The 105㎡ home cinema was completed in 16 days, with all wiring and mounting hardware fully concealed. After handover, the room’s reverberation time falls perfectly within the optimal range for private cinema use. Movie dialogue is crisp and natural, bass response is deep and controlled, and the glowing starry ceiling creates a fully immersive viewing atmosphere that the homeowner uses regularly for both film nights and private music listening sessions.
