Grooved & Perforated Acoustic Panels – Indoor Multi-Function Sports Hall Acoustic Renovation

perforated acoustic panel

This project is an acoustic rectification project for an indoor comprehensive sports hall used for badminton, table tennis and group fitness activities. The tall and enclosed space produces severe low-frequency reverberation. Ball hitting sound, footsteps and crowd noise overlap continuously, causing muddy sound field and unclear broadcast voice. Long-term noisy environment easily leads to athlete fatigue and affects venue usage experience and event organization effects.

According to the acoustic frequency characteristics of sports venues, the design team adopted a combined solution of grooved and perforated acoustic panels. Based on Helmholtz resonance principle, the panels precisely target 250Hz–1000Hz low and medium frequency noise which is difficult to eliminate by ordinary porous materials. Equipped with rear air cavity and acoustic cotton, the overall NRC reaches 0.90, realizing full-band sound absorption and effectively improving speech intelligibility.

The wood veneer finish is wear-resistant, impact-resistant and durable for high-frequency sports scenarios. After construction, the venue reverberation time is optimized to the standard range for sports venues. The broadcast sound is clear and uniform in every corner, and the overall noise is significantly reduced. The project solves the long-standing low-frequency noise problem of indoor sports venues.
