Polyester Fiber Acoustic Panels for 24/7 Shared Study Room Acoustic Renovation

This project focused on acoustic improvement for a 24-hour shared study room located in a downtown business district. The space adopted an open seating layout with hard painted walls and tile floors, resulting in obvious reverberation. Daily noises such as page turning, keyboard tapping, walking and whispered conversations were easily transmitted between seats, reducing users’ learning efficiency and concentration. As a space for long-term stay, the client also put forward strict requirements for indoor environmental protection.

The project team selected recycled polyester fiber acoustic panels as the core wall and partition treatment material. Made of 100% recycled PET fiber, the panels are formaldehyde-free, non-toxic and low-VOC, fully meeting the health requirements of long-term closed spaces. With an NRC rating of 0.85–0.95, the panels efficiently absorb mid-to-high frequency scattered noise, weaken sound transmission between seats, and create a quiet and focused learning atmosphere. The panels adopt a matte light color system, which matches the simple and bright decoration style of the study room.

The lightweight material supports quick modular installation, which did not affect the normal 24-hour operation of the store during construction. After completion, the overall background noise of the study room decreased by 32%, and the reverberation time reached the standard for reading spaces. User feedback showed that concentration was significantly improved, and the monthly renewal rate of members increased by 27%. This case fully verifies that polyester fiber acoustic panels are a cost-effective acoustic solution for small commercial reading spaces.
