Project Challenge

This 220㎡ premium custom tattoo studio in West Hollywood, Los Angeles includes 6 private treatment rooms, a design consultation area and a calm client waiting lounge. It features polished concrete floors, tiled work surfaces and minimalist luxury decor built for a high-end clientele — but hard reflective surfaces create noticeable inter-room sound leakage. Tattoo machine hum, drill noise and consultation conversations carry between rooms, disrupting client privacy and increasing pre-session anxiety. The studio requires wipeable, disinfectable acoustic materials that resist ink and pigment stains, meet clinical hygiene standards, and fit seamlessly with the high-end interior aesthetic.

Our Solution

We lined all 6 private treatment rooms with full-height high-density fiberglass core medical-grade fabric acoustic panels, with an NRC rating of 0.85–1.0. The outer face uses medical-grade stain-resistant flame-retardant fabric that stands up to daily wipe-down disinfection with clinical cleaners and resists ink and pigment staining. The panels effectively cut airborne sound transmission between rooms, keeping consultation and procedure conversations private and reducing ambient noise stress for clients. In the waiting lounge and consultation area we added matching fabric panels on feature walls to control overall ambient reverberation across the public space.

All materials meet ASTM E84 Class A fire safety standards and use low-VOC adhesives suitable for enclosed service spaces. Installation was completed overnight over 7 days so the studio could stay on its regular booking schedule.

Project Results

Inter-room sound leakage dropped by an estimated 43%, and client pre-treatment anxiety scores dropped notably thanks to reduced noise from adjacent rooms. Client satisfaction scores for privacy and comfort are up 36%, and all materials hold up perfectly to daily clinical disinfection and ink exposure with no performance drop or discoloration.
