Project Challenge

This 950㎡ premium specialty pet hospital in Greater Toronto covers consultation rooms, treatment suites, a recovery ward and public waiting areas. Original lightweight partition walls and hard tile finishes cause clear inter-room sound leakage — barking and treatment noise from one room stress animals in adjacent rooms, and consultation conversations can be overheard from the hallway. Noise increases animal anxiety and recovery time, and creates privacy concerns for pet owners. The clinic needed wipeable, cleanable acoustic materials that fit with its calm, high-end interior aesthetic.

Our Solution

In consultation and treatment rooms we installed full-height high-density fiberglass core medical-grade fabric acoustic panels, NRC 0.85–1.0. The outer face uses medical-grade stain-resistant flame-retardant fabric that stands up to daily wipe-down disinfection. The panels effectively cut airborne sound transmission between rooms, reducing animal stress from external noise and keeping owner consultations private. In public waiting areas and corridors we used perforated acoustic panels with mineral wool backing, NRC 0.80+, with smooth dense easy-to-clean surfaces to control reverb in public zones.

All materials meet ASTM E84 Class A fire safety standards and ultra-low VOC emission requirements, fully compliant with North American veterinary facility norms. We built out room by room in phases, keeping the hospital partially open the whole time.

Project Results

Inter-room sound leakage is effectively eliminated, and animal stress indicators during treatment dropped notably. Patient recovery times improved slightly with quieter recovery wards, and owner satisfaction scores for visit comfort are up 34%. All materials hold up perfectly to daily clinic cleaning and disinfection routines with no performance drop.
